Yates declares Europa League recognition as Dyche ‘good signs’

Despite the win, Forest will have to fight in a playoff round tie.

Nottingham Forest Believe they can go all the way Europa LeagueCaptain Ryan Yates said after Sean Dyche’s men finished their league stage campaign together Ferencvaros lost 4-0.

An own goal from Bens Ottovos, an Igor Jesus double and a penalty from James McAtee gave Forest a comfortable win at the City Ground, although it was not enough to secure a place in the top eight and automatic progression to the last 16.

It was a stark contrast to Forest’s 1-0 defeat to Braga last week and came on the heels of a key Premier League win over Brentford 2-0.

Forest will face either Fenerbahce or Panathinaikos in the playoff round.

Despite adding two extra games to their potential route to the final, the Forest camp are confident they can reach the Istanbul showpiece.

Asked about his performance, Yates told TNT Sports: “Exactly what was needed.

“We started well on the front foot, this man (Igor Jesus), clinical as always. It’s a good night. A few changes and we need that confidence in the whole group.

“We think we can go all the way.”

Forest face Crystal Palace on Sunday in another huge Premier League game against a side that could soon be in the relegation zone.

“Quick turnaround in games and we have to recover well,” Yates said. “We performed well today.

“We didn’t back it up, so we need to do that (in the next game).”

Manager Sean Dyche praised his players, with the former Burnley and Everton boss clearly encouraged following a game in which Forest could have won by a greater margin.

“It wasn’t easy with the different games, the schedule, the planning, the travel and all that kind of stuff,” Dyche told TNT Sports. “To come out of a disappointment in Braga and then to deliver that I’m very happy.

“In all these games, especially in the Premier League, if your structure isn’t good you can open up, but it’s equally coming out to play with freedom. Those have been good signs recently and good signs tonight.”
