X says it will suspend creators from revenue-sharing program for unlabeled posts on AI in ‘armed conflict’

X says it will take action against creators who post AI videos of armed conflict without disclosing that the content is AI-generated. On Tuesday, X’s head of product, Nikita Bier, Office has partnered that people who use AI technology to mislead others in this way will be booted from the company’s Creator Revenue Sharing Program within three months (90 days).

If they continue to post misleading AI content after the suspension is lifted, they will be permanently suspended from the program.

“In times of war, it is critical that people have access to real information on the ground. With current AI technologies, it makes no sense to create content that misleads people,” wrote Bier in X. “Starting now, users who post AI-generated videos of an armed conflict – without adding disclosure that they were made with AI – will be suspended for 0 days from Creator Re9.”

X says it can identify misleading posts through a combination of tools used to identify generative AI content, as well as through its crowdsourced fact-checking system, Community Notes.

by X Employer Profit Sharing Program offers creators the ability to generate income by posting on the platform and sharing advertising revenue if their posts are popular. While designed to increase the amount of engaging content found on X, critics in the program say it PROMOTES creators who post sensationalized content, such as clickbait or other posts designed to provoke outrage. Others have also criticized its poor content controls and its requirement that creators pay X subscribers to participate.

Given how easy it is for AI to be used to create misleading photos and videos, X’s ban on financially rewarding creators for this type of content is limited. Outside of war, AI media is often used to create political disinformation or push fraudulent products on influencer economy – all of which will still be allowed under the new policy.
