India Under-19 star Ayush Mhatre is once again making headlines as he smashed a world record in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. He became the youngest batsman ever to score more than 150 runs in Class A cricket.

Ayush Mhatre achieved this milestone during the match between Mumbai and Nagaland during the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy. In this innings, he also broke the previous record held by Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Ayush Mhatre sets world record in Vijay Hazare Trophy

At 17 years and 168 days, Ayush Mhatre is the youngest player to score 150 or more runs in A-grade cricket. Mhat struck 181 off just 117 balls with a strike rate of 154.70. He hit 15 fours and 11 sixes during his batting.

It was a stellar performance in India’s U-19 opener, having grabbed headlines with his recent performance in the U-19 Asia Cup, where India lost to Bangladesh in the final.

Previously, the record was held by Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored over 150 runs at the age of 17 years and 291 days. Jaiswal scored a brilliant double century in the 2019 Vijay Hazare Trophy against Jharkhand.

The left-hand opener smashed 203 off 154 balls with 17 fours and 12 sixes to help Mumbai win the match. Both Mhat and Jaiswal are from Mumbai and have shown huge batting potential.

Meanwhile, Mumbai performed well after losing to Punjab in their last match. Nagaland opted to play the first game on a good batting pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Mumbai got off to a bright start with openers Ayush Mhatre and Angkrish Raghuvanshi getting them off to a flying start. Raghuvanshi was dismissed for 56 off 66 balls but Mhatre continued to play. The opener showed his class and proved his authority in a brilliant innings filled with four sixes.

The middle order did not contribute much but Prasad Pawar and Shardul Thakur ensured that Mumbai crossed the 400-run mark. Thakur blasted a blistering 73 runs off 28 balls with just 2 fours and 8 sixes to help Mumbai post a win of 403-8 in 50 overs.

It was always a tough ask for Nagaland and they have never been in the competition. All-rounder Jagadeesha Suchith scored a brilliant hundred from 97 balls, including 7 fours and 4 sixes, off 104 balls.

Shardul Thakur also performed well with the ball, taking 3-17 in 5 innings. Royston Dias and Suryansh Shedge also picked up two wickets each for Mumbai. With this win, Mumbai currently ranks third in the group with 3 wins and 2 losses.
