It took a while for Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast to learn what to take from the great success of Baldur’s Gate 3 a few years ago, and even then, what they usually learn to take is “sale of hell from the party.” But while we wait for someone, somewhere, to think about a Baldur’s Gate 4, we will at least take the goods, especially in the form of Magic cards.
This week Announced by Wizards of the Coast a big one Dungeons and Dragons-themed “superdrop” for it Secret Lair platformaptly named “Roll for Initiative.” Cover a real crowd D&D theming, from adventure-module-inspired sets to blacklight art variants of cards from the first Dungeons and Dragons sets for Magicthe seven-set drop also includes two Baldur’s Gate 3 set, each based around a specific member of smash hit game main party: Shadowheart the Half-Elf Cleric and Gale Dekarios the Human Wizard.
Early taken Baldur’s Gate 3The motley crew used to appear throughout Tales of Forgotten Realms and the Battle for Baldur’s Gate Commander Legends sets, and Karlach and Astarion previously got their own Secret Lair sets as part of Dungeons and Dragons‘ Celebrating the 50th anniversary. So it’s nice to see that more party members are getting their due, even if it seems like it’s going to take a while (and very expensive) to get the whole team into Secret Lair form.
Away from the city of Baldur’s Gate, other drops have a trio inspired by the iconic Dungeons and Dragons characters and creatures, the aforementioned Blacklight variants, and a set of lands depicting iconic locations from across the Forgotten Realms.

As with all Secret Lairs lately, they’ll be very hard to get when the queue opens for them at 8 am Pacific—an hour before the sale starts at 9 am—on February 9. And you’ll want a lot of gold from your clutch bag, too: each set costs $30 for a standard version or $40 for a holo-foil variant on offer, and the Wizard of All offers from several sets from in the Wizard. ($200), all seven foil variants ($270), and a completionist’s combo of the two for a whopping $465.
