The Women’s Super League (WSL) has officially disbanded for the winter break after 10 action-packed matchdays so far.
After a terrific run from minute one, Chelsea have extended their gap at the top of the table to six points. An injury-hit Manchester City side trail the Blues by six points after a shock 2-1 defeat to Everton on matchday 10.
Arsenal have made waves in recent weeks by building on their disappointing start to the 2024/25 season. The Gunners have gone 11 games unbeaten under the interim management of Rene Sledgers and currently trail Man City by a point.
Manchester United remain top of the table, below the Gunners on goal difference.

Matchday 10 was all twists and turns, as Chelsea finally had their winning streak snapped by a Leicester City side at the King Power Stadium. Missy Goodwin’s early opener put the Foxes on track for all three points, before the Vic captain managed to draw proceedings back level.
As for second-placed City, Gareth Taylor’s side were beaten by Everton at Walton Hall Park. Missing some of their biggest stars, Man City had no answers to what was asked of them and squandered an opportunity to close the gap on Chelsea.
Arsenal seized their chance to make up for lost time, as a 1-0 victory over Liverpool was enough to secure three points on Merseyside. Whether or not the Gunners are a little late in the title race is questionable, but they are certainly in the running to leapfrog City in the standings.
Manchester United are also in the running for Champions League qualification, but have shown that their weaknesses can take them out of the title race entirely.
Chelsea’s fast start puts them in the driver’s seat for the second half of the season, and with the quality of squad they have, it should be a smooth ride. Sonia Bompster will welcome Lauren James, Sam Kerr and Mia Fishel into the new year, leaving the opposition very scared.
With both Arsenal and Man City in the Champions League, the Blues won’t have to worry about playing more games than their WSL counterparts.
As for the race for second, we predict that Arsenal could finish second if they maintain their current form. Taylor has repeatedly shown his vulnerability in the face of adversity, and it looks like this injury spell could have a similar outcome.
City will need to regain their composure if they are to continue to turn up the heat on Chelsea. Head coach Taylor confirmed that City are ‘hoping to do some business’ in the January transfer window to help fill the holes left by current injuries to Alex Greenwood, Lauren Hamp, Vivian Miedema and Khadija Shaw.
If Arsenal want to do a deal with Renee Slagers until the end of the season, the north-London side could have enough momentum to continue competing at the highest level. January interest in Keira Walsh could also help strengthen this Arsenal squad if they are able to strike a deal for the English midfielder.
