The late Peter Seidler became a popular figure at Petco Park after taking over as owner of the San Diego Padres in 2012. The businessman spent extravagantly and made it clear he was committed to leading the Friars to their first World Series title.

After Peter passed away due to illness in September 2023, his brother John Seidler succeeded him. However, John does not seem to share his enthusiasm for the management team.

The Seidler family had been looking to sell the team this offseason. Report Claims five ownership groups submitted bids to buy the Padres.

Former Miami Marlins president David Samson dug into the situation Tuesday and posted a video on his YouTube channel.

“There were as many as five different parties (interested) and three significant offers were made,” Samson said. “When we enter a period of labor uncertainty in Major League Baseball, when you enter an period of uncertainty in terms of media revenue, there’s no potential owner right now who looks at the Padres and says, ‘Oh, we’ve got a labor situation.’

“Don’t know what happened to the media. Well, can’t bid.” That’s not the case. Those numbers relate to being (an owner of) one of 30 (teams). And then they have to do with the size of the market that you’re in, and then they have to do with the self-premium that a person is willing to pay to be one of 30 people. “

John Seidler provided information on san diego padres‘On sale February 17th.

“We’ve had a lot of interest,” Seidler said via AJ Cassavell of MLB.com. “People are interested. Some groups are covered in the media and others are not. There are more interested groups than are reported.

“(Padres general manager) A.J. (Preller) likes to say that every offseason is different and has its own timeline. The sales process has its own timeline. Over the next few months, that process will come to a logical conclusion. The best I can tell you is that there is strong interest in properties that are really attractive.”
