Qatar have headlined the latest group of teams to confirm their participation in next year’s FIFA 2026 World Cup following the conclusion of the latest qualifying round.
The hosts of the 2022 Global Showcase reached the finals via the qualifying route for the first time when they beat the united arab emirates Tuesday.

Who still qualifies for the 2026 World Cup?
Africa: Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon and Nigeria will compete for the continent’s final intercontinental spot. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has yet to announce dates for these matches.
Asia: The UAE and Iraq will play two legs in the final stages of the AFC qualifiers in November to compete for a continental play-off spot.
Europe: Fifty-three of the 54 European teams competing for the 16 qualification spots can still confirm their spots alongside England, as their first-round fixtures run until November 18.
North America, Central America and the Caribbean: With three spots taken by World Cup host countries, only three spots are left up for grabs. The winner will be decided on November 18th. Bermuda, Costa Rica, Curacao, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Haiti, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Panama, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago have all advanced to the third round. The three second-placed teams from each group will then compete for a spot in the intercontinental play-offs.
Oceania: New Caledonia has qualified for the continental play-offs.
South America: Bolivia had qualified for the continental play-offs but missed out on one of the six automatic promotion spots.

Which major teams have been eliminated?
In 1962, Peru and Chile finished third, but they missed the South American qualifiers and Venezuela was also eliminated.
Although the Chinese team is not considered a strong team in Asia, reaching the finals for the first time since 2002 will be disappointing.
Angola, Libya, Mali and Namibia will be among the countries disappointed by being eliminated from the African qualifiers.
The Indonesian team had only hoped to reach the World Cup for the second time, but they bravely reached the fourth round of the AFC Champions League qualifying. But they will be disappointed not to go further in the Dutch recruitment drive, which includes their coach Patrick Kluivert.
Bahrain, who finished ahead of South Korea in the 2023 AFC Asian Cup group stage but were eliminated by Japan in the last 16, will be frustrated at missing out on the chance to showcase their skills on the global stage. Palestine are seconds away from reaching the fourth round of AFC Champions League qualifying and will also be disappointed at not progressing further in the continental qualifiers after a historic run to the knockout stages of the last Asian Cup.

European qualifying will continue until March after the current group stage, and the continental play-off finals are scheduled to be held in the same month, so the final 48 teams for the World Cup will not be known until less than three months before the tournament. All qualifying rounds will end on March 31, 2026.
