West Bromwich Albion This season is in big trouble. The Knickerbockers, who recently parted ways with Eric Ramsay after just nine games in charge, are fighting to avoid unexpected relegation from the Championship.
They are currently outside the bottom three but are just one point ahead of 22nd-placed Leicester City, with a goal difference of -18 compared to the Foxes’ -9.
Things are looking really on the line for the Midlands and they need to get their next game right.
But what will their run-in look like in the next few key games?
A look at West Brom’s journey of survival
It feels like there will be too much downtime for West Brom in March. They have to pick up points to get away from Leicester City, but it won’t be easy. Their final three games are at home to Southampton and Hull City before traveling to Bristol City at the end of the month.
The Tigers currently occupy a playoff spot, and the other two teams are within 4 points of the playoffs, so they have a lot of motivation. This is sure to be a tough game for the Lantern Bags.
April doesn’t get much easier. There are further games against promotion candidates including Wrexham, Millwall and Ipswich.
However, those three games were at The Hawthorns, who have fared much better, with six wins and six draws in 17 home games this season.
The most important game before the end of the season is undoubtedly the trip to Ewood Park on Easter Monday against Blackburn Rovers. Lancaster are also in relegation trouble, so this could be a key game to avoid relegation.
The final game of the season sees West Brom away to relegated Sheffield Wednesday, an ideal game if they need to avoid defeat. The Owls have won just once all season.
Rumors are rife as to who will be in charge of this crucial final phase of the 2025/26 season.
West Brom could hire Will Steele as replacement
As you’d expect, when it comes to Ramsey’s perfect replacement, a few names have been thrown around.
One of the men who may have caught the attention of die-hard fans of the Blazers is former head coach Slaven Bilic; “Express” and “Star” say who? “There’s been talk” about bringing back the club.
His first spell at the club saw him promoted from the Championship in 2019/20, leading West Brom to second place. Bilic was indeed sacked after a poor start to the Premier League, with just one win in 13 top-flight games before being sacked.
However, let’s look at that successful secondary campaign. He won 22 of 46 games, drew 17 and suffered only seven defeats.
Former Premier League midfielder Lee Hendrie said He achieved “tremendous” results during his time in charge of the Championship club.

One of the most striking things about that season was how clinical Bilic’s side were in front of goal. The Lantern Bags’ 77 goals were tied for second-most in the competition, trailing only playoff runner-up Brentford.
Should the Croatian get the full-time job, he would likely make a better appointment than fellow candidate Will Still. The 33-year-old is out of a job after being sacked by Southampton earlier this season.
Although he has impressed in Ligue 1, he has struggled to adapt to English football, which could raise a red flag for the Blaugrana board when it comes to their next appointment. Still only four wins in 16 games at St. Mary’s perhaps highlights a lack of experience.
On top of that, the former West Brom manager prefers a 4-2-3-1 formation to the back three preferred by Steele.
The Knickerbockers have tended to go with Bilic’s ideal formation this season, and while Ramsey did try out a back three, too much tinkering could be a hindrance and keeping a back four would arguably be ideal.
This is a risk West Brom cannot take. Relegation is imminent so they may favor the experienced Bilic, who knows the club and has been successful in the league, rather than the young Steele, to guide them to safety.
