Carlos Corberan has resigned from his job at West Brom to take over as Valencia’s new manager.
The La Liga club confirmed the news has met the release clause in Corberan’s contract.
“Carlos Coberran will become Valencia’s new coach until 2027,” Valencia said in a statement on Tuesday.
“The club has informed West Bromwich Albion to exercise the exit option set out in his contract and leave the English club.”
Former Valencia youth team player Corberan posted on social media that leaving West Brom was the “toughest” decision of his life.
“I cannot explain how I feel about West Bromwich Albion, its fans and everyone associated with the club,” Corberan wrote.
“In my two-plus years here, I have felt nothing but love from this community, and the decision to leave was the hardest decision of my life.
“This special club will always have a place in my heart and I hope one day I can come back to thank you all for your incredible support.”
Former Huddersfield boss Corberan, who worked under Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United, takes over at The Hawthorns in October 2022, replacing Steve Bruce who was sacked two weeks ago.
In his first full season in charge (2023/24), the Spaniard guided the Knickerbockers into the Sky Bet Championship play-offs, although they were beaten by eventual champions Southampton in the semi-finals.
They are currently seventh in League Two, unable to reach the play-offs on goal difference, having lost just one of their last 14 games and will travel to Pride Park to face Derby on Boxing Day county.
The Championship club confirmed that Chris Brunt, Damia Abela and Boas Myhir will take charge of first-team duties until further notice.
West Brom chairman Hiren Patel paid tribute to Corberan on his departure.
“I would like to thank Carlos for all the hard work he has put in since arriving at Albion during one of the most challenging periods of the club’s modern era,” Patel wrote on social media.
“I thank him for his contribution and wish Carlos and his family the best in their new journey!”
Valencia finished second from bottom in La Liga with just two league wins, which led to the sacking of former Spain international Ruben Baraja.
