The final trailer for Hail Mary Project recently released, and it all led to this. With the previous trailers just hints at the other main character of the film, one alien creature named Rockythis trailer includes all of them. And it’s absolutely adorable.
Directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, Hail Mary Project stars Ryan Gosling as Ryland Grace, a middle school teacher who wakes up in space and realizes that the fate of the planet is in his hands. But, quickly, he also learns that Earth is not the only planet in danger. He teams up with an alien from another world, whom he nicknames Rocky, to save their two planets. And, as the title says (as well as the song choice in the trailer), we’re dying for this little guy.
Lord and Miller know there will be people upset that Rocky, who has been teased in the past, is being featured, but they promise it’s okay. “This movie is a relationship movie,” Miller said at a recent Los Angeles event on io9. “The co-star of the film is not a secret at all ET with ET or something. ” “One of the things people often ask when they see a movie is, ‘What’s the premise of the movie?’” added Lord. “We felt we had to answer that.”
“People who have had experiences reading the book are like, ‘Oh my God, what a crazy surprise.’ Because they don’t (don’t) know anything,” Miller said. “People who go to the movies need less information than people who read the books. We knew we couldn’t get through the whole campaign without revealing the co-star.”
A co-star who appears at the end of Act One and has a big, big role moving the story forward. We’ll discuss how big Rocky’s role will be, as well as more information on his relationship with Grace, on Monday. In the meantime, what do you think of the final trailer for Hail Mary Project? It opens on March 20.
