Andrew Stanton, the Oscar-winning director of Wall-E and Find Nemohave a great year. This summer, he’s in charge of Pixar’s marquee franchise the director of Toy Story 5. And, before that, he dropped his latest live-action moviewhich covers all human life and beyond. You know. A little like that.
That’s called a movie In the Twinkle of an Eye, and the first trailer is now online. It stars Rashida Jones, Kate McKinnon, and Daveed Diggs in a look-alike film like the bold 2012 film Cloud Atlas. This film follows “three storylines, spanning thousands of years,” as they “intersect and reflect on hope, connection, and the circle of life,” and here’s your first look.
What are we talking about? Like this Cloud Atlas, right? But no SOMEWHAT same as Cloud Atlas, as there are more characters and more scope, especially in future bits. Here, the future bits feel more isolated. But the music and editing of the trailer suggest a film that will carry similar messages about the eternal nature of love and how life carries mysteries across generations.
That’s the good news. The bad news is that In the Twinkle of an Eye don’t go to the cinemas. It was released directly on Hulu and Disney+. That’s not a kiss of death, of course, because direct streaming movies are always great (remember when Disney did the same thing for prey?) But it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last month, and the reviews not very kind. As of the publication of this article, it sits at 18% from 17 reviews. That’s rotten.
But Andrew Stanton is a filmmaker with bold innovations. His first participation in live-action was John Carter, a film that doesn’t wow as much as it wants but better than history has given. perhaps In the Twinkle of an Eye can be the same. We will find out later this month. Either way, we’re interested.
