WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez, who says he won the July presidential election and is recognized by many countries as the president-elect, said on Monday he had a productive meeting with US President Joe Biden and contacted the US President – elect Donald Trump.
Gonzalez’s visit to Washington comes as part of a regional tour days before President Nicolas Maduro, recognized by Venezuela’s top court and electoral authorities as the winner of the election, is scheduled to be inaugurated for his third term.

“We had a long, productive and warm conversation with President Biden and his team,” Gonzalez told reporters after the meeting at the White House. “Our team is in contact with President Trump’s team.”
He hopes the relationship with the Trump administration will be close, Gonzalez added.
