During his appearance on “Varney & Co.” on Monday, Lehane, OpenAI’s vice president of global affairs, argued that the U.S. must “absolutely” win in the AI space, highlighting the key components listed to the company’s recently presented project.
“We have an advantage. That advantage is not as big as it used to be against China“, he said.
On Monday, OpenAI unveiled its AI in America: OpenAI’s Economic Blueprint, which focuses on AI in national security, the state’s “vital role” in “maximizing the benefits of AI early on,” and the infrastructure.

Lehane explained that the plan will not only help ensure America’s leadership in the race, but also support the “economic opportunity that a country can have“from technology.

Finally, the last piece that appears in the plan is the infrastructure.
“People have said that infrastructure is destiny. We need chips. We need data. We need energy,” he stressed.
The blueprint document echoes Lehane’s comments, which states that “we believe that building sufficient infrastructure is not only vital to ensure that AI around the world is based on US-based technology rather than China, but is an unmissable opportunity to catalyze a reindustrialization of the US.”
