UK PM Starmer slams ‘lies’ children’s rights news after Musk tirade


Starmer has defended the prosecutor’s record after tech billionaire Musk attacked him and other Labor figures over their handling of child rape cases.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer has defended his record and slammed those “spreading lies”. It comes days after Elon Musk launched a hostile attack over the historic child rape crime in northern England.

“Those who spread lies and misinformation as widely as possible are not interested in the victims, they are only interested in themselves,” Starmer said on Monday, without mentioning the name of US billionaire Musk.

He was speaking at a National Health Service-related event in Surrey, England, where he responded to questions about Musk’s recent attacks on his handling of child rape cases.

Musk’s tirade, which included calls for a new public inquiry into the scandal, has prompted some British opposition politicians to join in the criticism and call for a new national inquiry.

“We have seen this playbook time and time again, inciting intimidation and threats of violence and hoping the media will amplify it,” Starmer said.

The Prime Minister stressed that his security minister Jesse Phillips was under serious threat. Musk described her as a “rape genocide apologist” in a post on his social media platform X last week.

Starmer said he was just making a more general point, rather than responding directly to Musk’s comments: “When the toxicity of the far right poses a serious threat to Jesse Phillips and others, then that’s a bottom line in my book It was crossed.

“I love strong debate in politics, we have to have strong debate, but it has to be based on facts and truth, not lies,” he added.
