Mohamed Salah struck twice in eight minutes and added two more goals as Liverpool beat Tottenham to go four points clear at the top of the Premier League and leave Spurs in the bottom half.
Luis Diaz and Alexis McAllister scored first-half headers before Dominic Soboszlai fired home Salah’s pass on the stroke of half-time, restoring the visitors’ two-goal cushion after James Maddison responded from outside the box.
Salah, who hit the crossbar with a goalless scoreline, then slotted home twice from close range before Dejan Kulusevski volleyed over for a Spurs side who have picked up a point from their last four home league games.

Dominic Solanke’s finish gave the home forwards a third goal in three games, only for Diaz to tap in Salah’s ball to cap an incredibly entertaining contest.
Liverpool will top the table at Christmas for the first time since 2020/21, although the 2019/20 season is the only occasion in the last seven when they have been in that position and gone on to win the title.

Tottenham vs Liverpool
One of Liverpool’s 24 attempts raised the alarm for Tottenham fans after 18 minutes, when Salah hit the woodwork as part of an impressive start for Arne Slott’s men.
Diaz then grabbed his sixth goal of the season from a superb Trent Alexander-Arnold pass, setting in motion another dangerous display that sent Spurs into an embarrassment they have only endured once before.

Tottenham last conceded six defeats at home in the Premier League in December 1997 in a 6–1 defeat by Chelsea, but porous performances have become familiar to them under Postecoglou.

Tottenham conceded more goals
Manchester United scored three times as Chelsea threatened a comeback from their Carabao Cup defeat at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday, 11 days after winning 4-3 in the league.
Spurs’ defensive frailties look unsustainable and their two more goals than Liverpool and second-placed Chelsea is little consolation after results like this.
Come for the brilliant Luis Diaz header, stay for the Trent Alexander-Arnold cross 💥

They are eight points behind fourth-placed Nottingham Forest and nine above the relegation zone ahead of their trip to the City Ground on Thursday (3pm GMT).
Liverpool are in action on the same day at 8pm, hosting fourth-bottom Leicester City, who lost 3-0 to third-bottom Wolves on Sunday.
