
The island’s economy was already struggling under the weight of decades of US sanctions, but the situation in Cuba has worsened sharply since Donald Trump signed an executive order threatening to impose tariffs on countries that sell or supply oil to the Caribbean country. As airlines suspend flights to the island, long lines form at gas stations, fewer buses run, and power outages affect homes, hospitals and other government facilities.
