Trump continued: “Additionally, tariffs do us great national security because just the mention of the word makes countries agree with our strongest wishes.”
“Tariffs have given us our economy and our national security, and no Republican should be held responsible for undermining that privilege.”
Democrats successfully held a vote on a measure to reverse Trump’s national emergency at the northern border, using a mechanism to force a vote over the objections of House majority leadership called a privilege resolution.
The six Republicans who voted for the measure were Reps. Dan Newhouse (R-Washington), Kevin Kiley (R-Calif.), Don Bacon (R-Nebraska), Jeff Hurd (R-Colorado) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.).

However, it’s unclear how much impact Trump’s threats will have.
Neither Newhouse nor Bacon will run for re-election in the 2026 midterm elections, and Trump has endorsed a primary challenger against Massey.
Keeley, whose district is heavily affected by California Democrats’ new congressional map, has not said whether he will run for re-election or where he will run.
Fitzpatrick and Hurd are both popular incumbents in their respective districts, which are top Democratic targets in November.

The bill is now before the Senate, where Republicans have voted to condemn Trump’s tariff tactics in the past despite similar warnings from the president.
