Trump stands by chief of staff after shocking remarks about Vance, Bondi, Musk Donald Trump News

President Donald Trump said he supports White House chief of staff Suzy Wiles after Vanity Fair published an interview in which Wiles exposed tensions within the Trump administration and painted an unflattering portrait of the role of some of the president’s inner circle.

Trump, who has often described Wiles as “the most powerful woman in the world,” told the New York Post on Tuesday that he had full confidence in his chief of staff and that she was “doing a tremendous job.”

Vanity Fair published two articles based on those interviews, providing insight into Wiles’ views on other key figures in Trump’s second term as president.

Speaking of Trump, Wiles described the teetotal president as having an “alcoholic personality” and an eye for revenge on his enemies.

“He has the personality of an alcoholic,” Wiles said of Trump, explaining that growing up with an alcoholic father prepared her for managing “big people.”

She noted that Trump doesn’t drink but acts “as if there’s nothing he can’t do. Nothing, zero, nothing.”

In defending Wiles, Trump said Wiles’ personal description of him as having an “alcoholic personality” was correct, even though he doesn’t drink.

“I’ve often said that if I did this, there’s a good chance I’d become an alcoholic,” Trump said. “I’ve said this many times about myself, and I am. It’s a very possessive character,” he said.

Referring to the Trump administration’s failure to quickly fulfill its promise to share information related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, Wiles said Trump’s attorney general, Pam Bondi, failed to provide a clear understanding of the situation to the public.

“First, she gave them binders full of nothingness,” Wiles said of Bundy, noting that Vice President J.D. Vance more fully recognized how important the issue was to some because he was a “conspiracy theorist” himself.

Regarding Trump’s inclusion in the Epstein dossier, Wiles said, “We know he’s in the dossier” but claimed the dossier did not show he did “anything terrible.”

“Vanity Fair” stated that when talking about other members of the Trump administration, Wiles called Russ Vought, director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, an “absolute right-wing fanatic” and called technology tycoon Elon Musk a “weird duck.”

On Ukraine, Wiles said Trump believed Russian President Vladimir Putin “wanted the whole country” despite Washington’s push for a peace deal.

Wiles also confirmed that Trump wants to continue bombing suspected drug-trafficking vessels in Venezuela’s coastal waters until the country’s leader Nicolas Maduro “calls uncle.”

Other members of Trump’s inner circle also defended Wiles after the article was published.

Vance said in a speech in Pennsylvania that he and Wiles “joked privately and publicly” about his belief in conspiracy theories.

“We have our differences, we agree far more than we disagree, but I have never seen her disloyal to the president of the United States,” Vance said.

White House press secretary Carolyn Leavitt told reporters outside the West Wing that Wiles was “unbelievable” and accused Vanity Fair of “omission bias,” while Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said on X, “There’s absolutely nothing better than Wiles!”
