president Donald Trump Tuesday said he is still very fond of “Elon” despite their high-profile split earlier this year over “Beautiful Big Bill.”

At the end of the administration’s monthly Cabinet meeting, Fox Business’s Edward Lawrence asked Trump if Musk was “back in[his]circle of friends” after their falling out.

Trump responded: “Well, I really don’t know. I mean, I like Elon a lot,” he said, praising Musk’s support during the 2024 campaign and then pointing out their differences on electric vehicle policy.

Musk is a regular member White House Early in Trump’s second administration, he served as the de facto leader of the Department of Government Effectiveness. He served as a special government employee in the Trump administration, helping lead DOGE, frequently attending Cabinet meetings and joining Trump at public events. Musk’s tenure at DOGE ends at the end of May.

Trump teased Musk at the forum, and the once-cold dynamic seemed to have changed.

Musk also supported Trump in the 2024 election cycle, ultimately voting for the Republican candidate over former Vice President Kamala Harris in various battleground states.

Trump has repeatedly praised Musk’s efforts to eliminate potential federal overspending, fraud and mismanagement at DOGE, an effort that has come under attack from government employees and Democrats who protested the Trump administration and Musk multiple times earlier this year.

However, the warm friendship fell apart in June when Musk began publicly mocking “a beautiful big Bill.” legislation Trump signed the law in July to advance his agenda on taxes, immigration, energy, defense and the national debt.

Trump previously told the media that his relationship with Musk changed when he began discussing plans to lift the electric vehicle mandate, which would affect Musk’s iconic electric company Tesla. Trump, who signed three congressional resolutions in June to end California’s restrictive rules on diesel engines and a mandate on electric vehicle sales, celebrated that his signature “will end California’s mandate forever.”

The two suddenly parted ways in June, weeks after Musk offered some support for Trump’s presidential actions on social media, such as praising the July ceasefire agreement between Israel and Gaza.

Musk In September, at a memorial service for Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point America who was assassinated on September 10, Trump’s body was seen back in Trump’s orbit. The two were seen sitting together and chatting during the ceremony.

Musk recently attended a Trump event at the White House on November 18, where he dined with Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and dozens of prominent business leaders.

Trump’s latest comments about Musk came during a Cabinet meeting, his ninth such meeting since the start of his second administration, matching the total number of full Cabinet meetings held by former President Joe Biden during his four-year term.
