president Donald Trump U.S. Attorney Colin McDonald was nominated Wednesday to the newly created position of state assistant attorney general for fraud enforcement.

McDonald currently serves as the Assistant Deputy Attorney General in the Department of Justice Ministry of Justice.

“I am pleased to nominate Colin McDonough to serve as the first Assistant Attorney General for National Fraud Enforcement, a new division of the Department of Justice that I created to catch and stop fraudsters who steal from the American people,” Trump wrote on The Truth Society.

“My administration has uncovered fraudulent schemes in states like Minnesota and California where thieves stole hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars,” he continued.

Trump praised McDonough as a “very smart, tough and well-respected United States priority federal prosecutor who has successfully brought justice in some of the most difficult and high-stakes cases our country has ever seen.”

“Together we will end the fraud and restore the integrity of federal programs. Congratulations Colin – stop the fraud!” the president wrote.

MacDonald has been serving in the office of Deputy Attorney General Todd Branch, who said MacDonald “played an important role” in the federal government’s efforts to curb crime nationwide.

JD Vance, Vice President New roles announced Earlier this month, during a White House press briefing, the Justice Department established the National Fraud Enforcement Unit to combat alleged systemic fraud in federal programs, including in Minnesota and California.

“Colin MacDonald is widely regarded as a thorough and extremely competent attorney. He has an outstanding prosecutorial record, and we look forward to seeing him apply that record in his new role as Assistant Attorney General,” Vance said before MacDonald’s formal nomination.
