US President Donald Trump has invited Vladimir Putin to the “Board of Peace” governing Gaza, the Kremlin said on Monday.

Dmitry Peskov, the Russian president’s spokesman, told reporters that Russia is “studying all the details of the offer” and “hopes for discussions in Washington to explore all the nuances”, according to RIA Novosti.

The apparent offer shows that Trump is eager to continue his warm relationship with Putin even as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine approaches its fourth anniversary and Moscow is playing hardball over a US-backed peace plan.

Washington sent invitations to heads of state and government to join a “Board of Peace”, which Trump sit down Countries that join the board will serve a limited three-year term unless they contribute more than $1bn within the first year of its operations, according to the text of its charter.

This board will sit on top of an advisory body that will include former UK prime minister Sir Tony Blair, private equity boss Marc Rowan and the US president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.

The US embassy in Moscow did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
