Donald Trump has stepped up pressure on Israeli President Isaac Herzog as he seeks to pardon his ally Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who faces bribery charges.
The US president told reporters on Thursday that Israel’s prime minister was an “extraordinary” wartime leader. He then denounced Herzog for failing to grant clemency to President Netanyahu.

“You have a president who refuses to pardon him. I think this man should be ashamed of himself,” Trump said of Herzog.
He added that Israelis should pressure Herzog to pardon Netanyahu.
“It’s shameful that he doesn’t give. He should,” Trump said.
Trump’s remarks came a day after he hosted Netanyahu at the White House.
