Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to put an encouraging end to an encouraging week when they host Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Spurs kicked things off with a 5-0 thrashing of Southampton and followed up their south coast success with a chaotic but important one. 4-3 win over Manchester United Carabao Cup quarter-finals in midweek. Liverpool will give the club’s supporters the perfect Christmas present by topping the league leaders on Sunday.
Ange Postecoglou is still wrestling with a mountain injuries in North London, many of which are affecting his defensive choices. If there is one side in the division that will expose a weakened backline, it is Arne Slott’s high-flying Liverpool.
Here’s how Tottenham This weekend could line up.
GK: Fraser Forster – The veteran, who has been filling in for the injured Guglielmo Vicario, has been steady so far. Mid-week swearing-inAnd Liverpool are likely to press hard after two seismic blunders in the Carabao Cup.
RB: Pedro Poro – Poro is always an attacking threat for Tottenham and you wouldn’t bet against him contributing in the final third on Sunday. However, the likes of Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz could expose his defensive shortcomings.
CB: Radu Dragusin – Although not always convincing in a Spurs shirt, Dragusin offered a largely solid performance despite conceding three in midweek. The Romanian’s resolve will be tested by the intelligent Diogo Jota.
CB: Archie Gray – Gray has been used in a variety of roles this season but is currently operating at centre-half while Cristian Romero, Mikey van de Ven and Ben Davies recover from injury. Sunday will prove his toughest challenge.
LB: Destiny Udogi – The Italian missed the mid-week Carabao Cup win after sustaining a minor knock Against Southampton. However, Postecoglou has confirmed that Udogi should be available on Sunday.
DM: Pape matar sir – Sir’s performance levels have been impressive this season and the midfielder produced another defining performance midweek. He has to switch his defensive brain to the opposite Liverpool.
DM: Yves Bissoma – The relationship between Sir and Bissauma has blossomed recently and Postecoglou will be keen for him to dominate the midfield battle against Liverpool with his resilience and physicality.
RW: Dejan Kulusevski – Kulusevski has reverted to his right-wing role in recent outings, with James Maddison a little too good to be a long-term omission from the team. He has scored in each of his last four matches.
AM: James Madison – Madison has forced his way back into contention with a string of outstanding performances. He scored twice during another impressive display at St Mary’s Stadium last weekend.
LW: Son Hang-min – The South Korean has scored in each of his last five meetings with Liverpool and will look to capitalize on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s lapses in concentration. However, he is unlikely to score from a direct corner like he did in midweek.
ST: Dominic Solanke – The former Liverpool forward will be desperate to punish his old side having failed to score in eight meetings with the Reds during his Bournemouth days. Confidence will be high following the mid-week stress.
