Since pitchers complain, more and more players have started using bats. But Manfred supported its use in a recent interview.

“I believe that issues like torpedo bats and the debates around them show that baseball still holds a unique place in our culture because people are stuck with things that really have nothing at the end of the day. Bats follow the rules.”

Manfred added: “For several years, players have actually been at the best locations in the bats” and highlighted the debate about baseball.

Baseball Hall of Fame member Fergie Jenkins also debated in an interview with Outkick’s “Ricky Cobb performs.”

“Well, when you look back at the game, when I was playing in the 60s, 70s, 80s, pitchers were almost dominant, and now we are like second-class citizens. Everything is done for the batsmen.

In addition to changing the rules that benefit the batsmen, Jenkins says Torpedo bats are just the latest things in baseball that can help them.

“For batsmen, there are more batting surfaces, and I think that might increase the batting average, but you get better wood on the ball and the ball may spread further.”

“Who knows? A few extra hits, now there’s a batsman who’s seen one of his teammates use it. Now, he wants to use it. I can believe that every ball club would use that torpedo bat with six batsmen before the All-Star game.”
