Tonali is a non-starter for Arsenal as the Gunners scramble to replace the slain Marino

Newcastle The suggestions have been rejected Armory Inquired about midfielder Sandro Tonali.

Reports this morning claim the Gunners have inquired about the Italy international as they look for a replacement for Mikel Marino, who is likely to miss the rest of the season with a foot injury.

Tonali would fit the bill after impressing for Newcastle since joining from AC Milan in 2023 but the Tynesiders have denied any contact with Arsenal.

A deal of that magnitude will be very hard to compete before today’s 7pm deadline.

And with Newcastle’s midfield currently struggling with the injury absences of Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes, the club will have little appetite to consider losing Tonali.

Tonali has a contract at St James’ Park until 2029, a deal negotiated during a 10-month suspension for illegal betting activity.

There could be an outgoing from Newcastle today, however, with Jamal Lascelles set to end his 12-year association with the club and join Leicester.
