Tim Tszyu posted on Instagram today, telling his 283,000 followers that 2025 is the year “we’re all going to be great.” Former WBO junior middleweight champion Tszyu (24-2, 17 KOs) admitted that 2024 was not going to be good for him, losing the title and winning back-to-back titles.
First, he was defeated by Sebastian Fundora in a 12-round split decision on March 30. Then, on October 19 in Orlando, Florida, he was knocked out in the third round of a world title challenge against the undefeated IBF 154-pound champion. Bahram Murtazhaliev.
Tsyu’s loss to Murtazaliyev was brutal and showed he needed to rebuild his career against domestic opposition in his native Australia.
back to basics
It would be foolhardy for Thiem to continue fighting top five division fighters at 154 as a third defeat would prevent him from coming back. Mentally it will be difficult, but if Tsiyu loses the next game, fans will completely give up on him.
In hindsight, it was a mistake for Tsiyu to challenge Murtazaliyev (23-0, 17 KOs) in his first fight back after losing to Fundola. He should have chosen a weaker opponent instead of one of the toughest fighters in the division.
Murtazaliyev’s strength and offensive skills could prove too much for Terrence Crawford, Fundola and Israel Madrimov. Tszyu should be clearer on power shots with this guy.
“2024 is a year of adversity. I consider myself a throwback fighter and don’t care who’s in front of me, I’m willing to fight anyone. Things don’t always go according to script…but that’s the best thing about boxing What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger. I’m sorry I let a lot of people down…that’s what I will continue to do. A blow to anyone. Hope everyone has a happy new year and all the best.
2025 is the year we all become great. No matter what we do. Pursue greatness and never stop believing! See you all soon. ” said Tim Tszyu Instagram.
