Threads testing a shortcut to make it easier to DM someone, the company owned by Meta Office has partnered on Thursday. Users who are part of the test can type “DM me” or “Message me” in a post or reply to automatically generate a hyperlink inviting others to start a private conversation with them.
Tapping the shortcut will take you to a one-on-one direct messaging chat with the person. If you both follow each other, the message will go directly to their primary inbox. If you do not follow each other, the message is filtered through the “Message Requests” folder to avoid spam.
The company says the new shortcut removes the need to navigate to someone’s profile to start a DM conversation with them.
While Thread is late in introducing a native The DM partthis latest move shows that the social network is looking to make messaging a more central part of its platform, as it works to reduce the number of steps needed to start a conversation.

The new feature works to select users in the US and Canada. As with any other testing feature, it’s unknown when or if Threads plans to roll out the feature more widely.
The DM shortcut is just one of many new features that Threads has rolled out in recent months. The social network recently introduced a AI-powered feature which allows users to personalize their feed, and the ability to share posts directly in an Instagram Story without leaving the app. Also, Threads are visible explore in-message games last month.
The additions come as a recent report from the market intelligence firm Similar web it is suggested that Threads now exceed X in daily mobile use. Although X still dominates Threads on the web, the Threads mobile app for iOS and Android has continued to grow in daily active users over the past few months.
