Thomas Frank is “firm” he will remain in charge of Tottenham Hotspur despite fans attacking the manager after another defeat.
Frank lost 1-2 at home to Newcastle and suffered his 15th defeat in charge of Tottenham. This means that the Dane’s current league winning rate is only 26.9%, the lowest among Tottenham coaches in the Premier League era.
Spurs slipped to 16th with the defeat and are now just five points above the relegation zone, which could have dropped to three points if United had not equalized in stoppage time against 18th-placed West Ham United.
When asked if he would be in charge of the next game against rivals Arsenal, Live sky sports On February 22, Frank said: “Yes, I believe I will. I understand the issue.
“It’s easy to blame me, but it’s not just the manager, the owners, the players or the staff. It’s everyone.
“Everyone knows where we are and what we need to improve on, and that’s what we’re working on.”
Frank: I understand why fans are booing and chanting
Frank’s name was met with boos from the home fans before kick-off and this intensified later in the game with chants of “You’ll be sacked in the morning” and “We want Frank off”.
The 52-year-old was also harshly booed as he walked on the pitch after the final whistle.
Asked about the hostile reception, he added: “I understand the fans’ frustration.”
“This is a situation they don’t want to be in. We are working day and night to try and change. This is the situation the club has been in for the last two years. The current situation is that the club is struggling in Europe and the Premier League.”
“Part of it is getting rid of injuries and suspensions. We’re playing a Newcastle team that’s been struggling a bit recently. But I thought they were better in the first half and then we bounced back well.
“The second goal was a bit symbolic for our season.”
Frank: I’m the best person for this job
Despite his poor performances and his precarious status at the club, Frank still believes he is the best man for the job.
He added: “One thousand per cent. I’m also one thousand per cent sure I didn’t expect that we would be in the situation we are in now, with 11 or 12 people injured.
“There are people at Tottenham and many other clubs before me who have lost their minds. I have to stay calm. We have to get through this together.”
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, who was also under pressure ahead of the game, agreed and admitted he hoped Tottenham would give Frank time to prove his worth to the club.
“Well, I think you know the reality of the job is that any one of us could do this at any time and it’s not good,” Howe said at the postgame press conference.
“I think when you look at Tottenham and you look at their injury list, they’re missing an unbelievable list of players and I think that’s going to be really, really difficult for Thomas.
“I think he is a great coach and I have played against him many times. I think he has all the qualities to be a top coach at this football club and I hope he has time to show that.”
