Wolves have confirmed Vitor Pereira as their new head coach, with the Portuguese manager signing an 18-month contract with the club.

At 56, Pereira brings a wide range of experience to Molineux, having won league titles in Portugal, Greece and China during his managerial career.

Pereira, a former head coach of Al Shabaab in Saudi Arabia, oversaw his first training session at Wolves’ Compton Park facility on Thursday.

He will make his Premier League debut as Wolves manager when the team face Leicester City this weekend.

Pereira began his managerial journey with Portuguese side Sanjoanense in 2004, and his resume now includes 13 managerial roles in multiple countries.

He enjoyed great success at Porto, winning back-to-back Primera Liga titles in 2012 and 2013, with his team losing just one league match in two seasons.

Later, he achieved the same feat in Greece, where he led Olympiakos to the Super League title in 2015.

Pereira’s coaching career includes stints in Turkey and Germany as well as a triumphant league title win with Shanghai SIPG in 2018.

Wolves chairman Jeff Shea welcomed Pereira to the club, saying: “We are delighted to welcome Vitor Pereira to Wolves as the new head coach of our men’s first team.

“Vitter is a highly respected and experienced coach who has achieved success in various leagues and will bring a fresh approach to Tests.

“This is a challenging moment for the club, and we would like to thank Witter for taking on this responsibility.

“We have every confidence in his ability to get us back on track, along with the players and staff, and the whole club will be united in supporting him to achieve success.”

Sporting director Matt Hobbs echoed the sentiment, adding: “Vitter is a highly experienced and accomplished head coach who has demonstrated his ability to succeed at the highest level.

“His personality, desire and leadership qualities stood out to us during this process, and we are excited to see how he applies his skills here at Wolves.

“I look forward to working closely with Vitor and his team on a daily basis, supporting them in every way possible – from getting the most out of our staff in Compton to recruiting in the upcoming transfer window – as we work together to strengthen squad and to achieve our collective goals.
