The weirdest phone at MWC 2026 could start a fire (on purpose)

It’s not a The destruction of the Galaxy Note 7. Oukitel’s WP63 is a ruggedized smartphone that’s meant to put things through. It has a built-in electric igniter, aimed at emergency response and camping, which helps start a fire if you forget the matches, but you bring this rugged phone for adventure. It has many other notable features, such as a 20,000mAH battery, loudspeaker, and even its own built-in USB-C cable for charging other devices.

However, burning is why I am here. The WP63 has an electric coil that heats up, similar to cigarette lighters in cars circa 1987. It is hidden behind a protective cover on top of the device, and once it comes out, you activate it using an app. An Oukitel spokesperson was able to light a few rolls of paper, and I was surprised at how gentle and controlled it seemed. (The paper looks like cigarettes, too.)

Unfortunately, a spokeswoman told me it can’t be used to light a candle, although I don’t understand why. I don’t start campfires, but I do light candles.

The phone will be priced around $500, and completely ignores the possibility for thinner and thinner phones, it is 27mm thick. Another outdoor use? If a bear decides to attack you in the woods, you can concuss it with WP63.
