The race to dominate AI video tools is heating up. After the Chinese company Kuaishou Cebu launched Kling 3.0 last week, ByteDance – the company behind TikTok – has now unveiled a new video generator, Seeddance 2.0to beta users.
It remains unclear when Seedance 2.0 will be accessible to general audiences and whether it will be available in the US, as the company has had to abandon most of its TikTok. ownership due to security and privacy concerns. So far, Seedance 2.0 has impressed AI enthusiasts, many of whom say it is more advanced than offerings from companies like OpenAI, which offers video generation through Sora 2 AI tool. A representative for ByteDance did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
(Disclosure: Ziff Davis, CNET’s parent company, in April filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, saying it infringed on Ziff Davis’ copyrights in training and operating its AI systems.)
What is different about Seedance 2.0
According to information on various ByteDance websites, Seedance 2.0 is an AI video model that can be used in many of its functions, including Dreaminaa creator software suite from video editing service CapCut.
Seedance can combine many types of clips, such as video, audio and images, generate videos based on a thumbnail of a person’s face, and do things that other video generators struggle with, such as maintaining consistent behavior and object features and displaying unified fonts and text.
Some of the examples created on social media include realistic viewing dance scenes, martial arts fights, explosive fights and entire short films generated from a text prompt.
Some AI software like TopView AI and Atlas Cloud seems to be planning to include Seedance 2.0 in their video-generator suites. On the Atlas Cloud website, the Seedance 2.0 AI generation is said to be coming later this month.
Video generators have proven popular, but the companies that make these AI tools have faced legal issues and other troubles. Disney and other companies last year sued AI image and video company Midjourney copyright issues. It’s Kuaishou just fined of the Chinese government for failing to prevent pornography on its AI platforms.
