Sony’s CES 2025 press conference was big on the entertainment front if you’re a PlayStation fan. In a series of rapid-fire announcements, the company announced that it is making an anime based on Ghost of Tsushima legends, the cooperative multiplayer mode from the acclaimed game. This follows news that Columbia Pictures is in the early stages of developing a movie based on the post-apocalyptic PlayStation game. Horizon Zero Dawn. Finally, Neil Druckmann from Naughty Dog came out to announce that season two of The Last of Us hits HBO in April.
We already know a fair bit about The Last of Us season two — it’s based in the 2020’s The Last of Us Part 2but it does not take us to all the events of the second game. It will take at least two seasons to retell the story of that awesome but complicated misery simulator. This season, Kaitlyn Dever, Isabela Merced, Catherine O’Hara and Jeffery Wright will join season one veterans Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey.
Other projects remain a mystery for now. More than two years ago, we heard that Horizon Zero Dawn is the adapted as a series for Netflixbut the project eventually fell apart. I’m really curious to see how they streamline the game’s disjointed storyline into a tight narrative for a two-hour movie (or even a three-hour one), but hopefully a a strong creative team is behind it.
When it comes to Ghost of TsushimaIt’s one of PlayStation Studios’ most recognized and popular titles, with back-to-back releases, so it’s another example of Sony using some of its best gaming titles to expand to a wider audience. entertainment space — which makes these stories easier. to people who rarely play 20-to-40-hour games.
On a personal note, The Last of Us and Horizon Zero Dawn are two of my favorite games of all time, so this 10-minute burst of good news was welcome in the middle of a very long day at CES!
