President of the Teamsters Union Sean O’Brien He testified to a Senate Commission on Wednesday and thanked the efforts of republican legislators for reaching the labor unions and working with them on legislation.
O’Brien testified before the Senate of Health, Education, Work and Pensions (HELP) Committee in the invitation of President Bill Cassidy, R-La., To discuss proposals for Reforming labor laws.
“I am encouraged to have been invited here as a guest of the Republican majority, this is a positive change,” said O’Brien.
“While I have been a team, none of the parties has led an effort to reach a bipartisan agreement on labor reform,” he said. “Democrats have played political football with massive labor reform bills. Republicans have largely reintroduced the invoices favorable to companies that make it difficult to unite.”

“I don’t like to waste time. I was chosen to do things for classification and file teams, for later solutions and not to deal with problems or the past. Everyone in this room was similarly elected to produce your constituents,” he added.
O’Brien said this is the third time to testify to the Senate Help Committee, and that neither democratic leaders nor group GOPs were successful in moving forward in solutions to what he called “the weak labor laws of our nation and inapplicable.”
“When I took office, I directed the Legislative Department of the Teamsters to face its own partisan bias. As a result, our union has found new allies on both sides of the hallway,” said O’Brien, pointing to Sen. Josh HawleyR-Mo., As a leader in these efforts.

O’Brien said there is “a rearrangement around the work that occurs within the Republican party. The Teamsters Union wants to promote multiple ways to support our members, or a single litmus legislative test. “
As an example of that realization and the new bipartisanism of labor issues, O’Brien pointed out a bipartisan bill introduced in March by Hawley, along with Sens. Cory BookerDN.J.; Jeff Merkley, D-Ear .; Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio; and Gary Peters, D-Mich. Since then, four additional democratic senators have signed as cosponsors.
The faster labor contracts law would modify the National Law of Labor Relations To demand that entrepreneurs must begin to negotiate with a newly trained union in the ten days after the workers’ unionization vote.
It would also refer to the parties to the binding arbitration if the mediation fails within 30 days or periods agreed by the union and the employer and will send disputes to mediation if an agreement is not reached in 90 days.
“After workers vote to form their union, many entrepreneurs delay the negotiation of the initial collective bargaining agreement. Almost half of the new unions fail to get a contract in a year after winning elections. After two years, a third party has no contract,” said O’Brien. “This bill guarantees that a first contract can be reached in months, not years.”
Sen. Rand paulR-KY., He spoke of the concerns raised by another expert testimony in the view that the faster labor contracts law would interject bureaucracy in the negotiations between entrepreneurs and a new training union.

Rachel Greszler, a lead researcher at Heritage Foundation, said that the complexity of collective bargaining agreements means that both workers who form a union and the employer need a long time to consider their implications for the company’s future and their workforce.
“When you have a first contract, especially if you have a company that has never been involved in negotiations or unions, which is the first time that workers have represented, they must understand all the problems,” he said.

Also said that contracts like the United Automobile Union Union Agreements with automobile manufacturers such as Ford can execute thousands of pages when counted by Memorandums OK, with several hundred articles covered under the negotiation agreement.
“They are too many things for both workers and employers who can consider within 120 days,” added Greszler.
