Four short months after the introduction of the truth palm size NeoDJI is back with another pint-sized consumer drone. Flip continues the interest of the giant drone in foldable form factors, with a quartet of propeller guards that essentially stack, for the easiest transport.
The new Flip continues to blur the lines of DJI’s existing consumer portfolio, combining “the simplicity of DJI Neo with the amazing photography capabilities of DJI Mini,” according to the company. At $439, the drone is closer to the Mini 3 ($419) than the Neo ($199).
It’s clear that the company is gunning for photographers/videographers looking to streamline their outdoor shooting. The new drone is capable of shooting 4K at 60 frames per second, as well as 100fps slow motion video. As for stills, the camera can take 48-megapixel shots with up to 4x zoom.

At 249 grams, the Flip weighs the same as Mavic Minibut heavier than the Neo’s 135 grams. With the added weight, however, comes a better battery life. The Flip has a listed charge of 31 minutes to the Neo’s 18. That’s a significant difference for people shooting video.
The Flip also sports automatic braking to avoid collisions at high altitude, as well as improved charging and data speeds. DJI likens a new Local Data Mode to the airplane mode of a smartphone, allowing the system to be disconnected from the internet while flying.
The Flip began shipping Tuesday in the U.S. What will the next four years look like for the company’s ability to continue selling Stateside, however, anyone’s guess.
