Belgium’s national gambling regulator, Kansspelcommissie, has signed an agreement with the country’s largest internet provider, DNS Belgium, on an illegal gambling detection partnership.
The agreement is an attempt by national regulators to combat illegal gambling throughout the “.be” domains for any sites that promote or offer betting without proper authorization to do so.

The news was announced by the gambling watchdog website and talks about a closer partnership in monitoring, identification, and domain-name intervention involving gambling websites operating without a Belgian license.
“The purpose of this protocol is to optimize the methods of removing illegal content on the internet, thanks to the intervention of DNS Belgium,” reads the report.
We report that the Gaming Commission’s annual reportpublished in October 2025, promotes a push for national reform and a closer relationship with the Minister of the Economy, who has agreed to a more hands-on role in gambling issues.
Commission president Magali Clavie said during the report, “The new government agreement finally offers a glimpse of new perspectives, hopefully this reform will allow the Commission to grow and adapt to the market it regulates, in a modern way like our European counterparts.”
The partnership with DNS is consistent with forward-thinking efforts to mitigate consumer protection risks highlighted in the annual report and create a system to notify any sites that trigger regulatory action.
“When DNS Belgium receives this notice, it will notify the domain name holder and inform them that the observed use of the domain name also constitutes a violation of DNS Belgium’s general terms and conditions,” said the notice.
Consumer protection risks are high on the Belgian agenda
Consumer protection, player safety, and regulatory oversight are key takeaways from the Kansspelcommissie’s news release. The regulator is determined to continue its focus on the points as part of a set of future enforcement tools.
One of the tools is a detection system used by DNS Belgium, and under the SETTLEMENT the company “will take the necessary technical steps so that the specific domain name is redirected to a warning page of the Gaming Commission,” which means illegal gambling sites using .be domains can be effectively removed from the Kansspelcommissie-licensed registry.
