
Terrence Crawford This month he followed in the footsteps of Floyd Mayweather and announced his retirement with a perfect record.
The Omaha, Neb., switch puncher defeated Saul “Canelo” Alvarez earlier this year to earn his 42nd win and the undisputed third weight title. While many believed a rematch would happen, Crawford revealed he was retiring from the sport.
During a live broadcast with Aden Rose, “Bud” discussed his career and decision to retire, and he was asked how he would continue to fight Floyd Mayweather – Then and now, he admits he’ll probably fight it.
“It will be a good chess match. Floyd is one of the best at chess, so it will be a game of who wants to win.”
Mayweather also retired undefeated, his 50-0 record summing up his excellent defensive skills. While he’s been relatively active on the exhibition circuit, he recently revealed that the possibility of returning to the pros at the age of 48 is “on the table.”
With that in mind, Crawford was asked if he would return for the nation’s biggest game and gave the answer most fans want to hear.
“No, man. Floyd’s old. Floyd’s done.”
Mayweather may consider a rematch with Manny Pacquiao. The Filipino fighting legend, who returned to professional action last year and fought Mario Barrios to a draw, said it is an option and talks are ongoing.
