A pizzeria in Chattanooga, Tennesseesaid it was a choice of “personal conviction” not to cater for same-sex weddings after critics slammed her for the policy.
Wood-fired pizza restaurant Pizzeria Cortile released a statement on your Facebook account on Tuesday he confirmed his policy after a left-wing media company first drew attention to it the day before.
“We have recently made the difficult decision not to attend a wedding our personal beliefs” wrote Pizzeria Cortile. “This belief comes from a place of personal conviction, one that we know is not shared by everyone, and is one that we hold without judgment towards others. This decision was not intended to harm or hurt anyone, and we regret the pain this has caused to the people who have been a part of our community.
“We acknowledge and listen to the feedback of everyone who reached out today. We hope that in time we can find an opportunity to extend grace and listen to each other, and remember that while we may not always we agree, we can still treat each other with dignity and love”.

The statement thanks the community and asks that they be given the opportunity to “continue to show you love when you walk through our doors.”
Pizzeria Cortile restricted comments on this specific post. However, his Facebook page was flooded with hundreds of negative comments attacking the decision under other unrelated posts.
The previous post on Sunday with photos of one of his dishes received more than 1,500 comments reacting to the controversy in the last 24 hours.
“There are no two reasonable sides here. No one asked you to be gay. Or promote any type of message. They ordered pizza. And the fans refused. That’s the whole story. It is not deeper. It’s black and white discrimination,” read one Facebook comment with more than 200 likes.

“Are you going to start asking your customers their sexual orientation when you walk into the neighborhood?” another top post scoffed. “Being bisexual, am I welcome?… You better go ahead and put it on your website that you don’t cater to or cater to gays either.”
Another important comment suggested that someone notify the IRS to audit the business.
Online commenters also slammed the owners as “fanatics” and wished their business would suffer from the news.
One commentator defended the business, citing Supreme Court precedent.
“The Supreme Court has ruled on this, and in fact it is not discrimination. You are free to make your own choices, but so are they. Who are you to force someone to share your beliefs but then expect them not to same.” read the comment.

The barrage of negative attention appeared to be prompted by posts on Reddit and readers of the progressive news website The Chattanooga Holler, which drew attention to the company’s policy on Monday.
“INBOX: Obviously Pizzeria Cortile will not cater same-sex weddings. Just letting people not waste their time (or money),” Chattanooga Holler posted on their social media accounts, along with a screenshot response from the pizzeria
“All I’m hearing is ‘We’re allowed to be homophobic by God,'” one person scoffed under Holler’s Facebook post.
“Calling bigotry a ‘personal conviction’ is a huge twist,” added another.
A social media post titled “Big L for Pizzeria Cortile,” Monday in Chattanooga Reddit also garnered more than 900 comments, most of which appeared to attack the business.
Pizzeria Cortile did not respond to a request for comment.
