Jamie Overton insists we are not worried about Jofra Archer as the England bowler looks to find his form in the T20 World Cup.
Archer has endured a tumultuous period since his return from injury and has hit double-digit economy in the last three T20 games.
He posted combined figures of 8-0-90-2 against Nepal and West Indies in Mumbai as England prepare to take on Scotland and Italy in their final Group C match.
“There’s nothing wrong with him,” Overton said. “Sometimes, with some pace on the ball and good wickets, the ball takes flight.
“We know what a good bowler Joff is. I’m sure he will come back in the next few games and not run many runs at all.”
England captain Harry Brooke also stressed his confidence in Archer this week, who continues to hit a solid 90mph.
“No, not really (if he was worried about Archer),” Brook said. “Everyone knows how good Joff is. He will definitely bounce back. He is bowling very fast and I am sure he will be better in the coming games,” Brook said.
Archer, who returned from a side strain earlier than expected after the Ashes season ended prematurely, had hit 10 or more in only six of England’s 35 T20 games before this tournament.
England lost by 30 runs to West Indies, their first defeat in nine T20 matches, having beaten Nepal by 4 runs in the opener.
Brooke insists his side were too “cautious” in their chase of 197, with England particularly failing due to spin against the Windies.
“We played really well with the spin game in Sri Lanka (England recently won the ODI and T20 series),” Overton said.
“It was just one of those areas where we were maybe a little careful and we didn’t quite execute the way we wanted to. These things happen and we learn from them and come out stronger in Kolkata.”
England need to win their last two games, while relying on the Windy’s not slipping, to secure their place in the Super Eights.
“Scotland and Italy now, obviously two must-win games, we’re hoping to get through the group stages. We’ve got to play well, we’re still confident and we feel in a good position,” Overton said.
