Super Bowl LX singer talks ‘America the Beautiful’

Brandi Carlile will be one of the artists performing before the show Super Bowl LX Sunday’s game between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots.

Carlile is among the performers who have spoken out against the president Donald Trump His administration’s policies date back to his first term. She will perform alongside Bad Bunny and Green Day as anti-Trump critics at Super Bowl LX in Santa Clara, California.

The singer will perform “America the Beautiful” before the game. In an interview, she suggested Variety She will bring her “own moral code” to the show on Friday, adding that the show is important to her as a member of the LGBT community.

“I have my own moral code, my own moral imperatives, and as a wife and a mother, I have to answer those questions at the end of the day, and I believe I have the ability and the responsibility to do that, and that’s why I’m here,” she told the magazine. “Being queer, being a representative of marginalized communities, and being on the biggest stage in America, acknowledging the fraught and tender hope that this country is built on, is something you can’t say no to. You do it.”

Super Bowl LX performers Bad Bunny and Green Day have been criticized U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) U.S. agents and their operations against illegal immigrants

Variety told Carlyle in an interview that the song “America the Beautiful” might have been heard differently in “quieter times.” “But even without hearing every verse that’s written, there’s probably something about it that will touch someone who really enjoys it during a difficult and divisive time. You can feel that.”

Carlisle responded: “Yes. I think if we as a people are going to save this country, we have to be reminded in some way that deep down we love it.”

Despite the criticism she may hear from her fans, Carlile said she won’t argue about why she sang the patriotic song.

“…I’m not going to waste my time in a pit fight,” Carlisle said. “My activism doesn’t end up in the comments section. And, you know, I may not be everyone’s favorite activist, but like I said, I have my own moral imperatives that I have to live by when I go to bed at night.”
