Sudan is ‘the biggest humanitarian disaster in history’: head of the International Rescue Committee

FRANCE 24 spoke to David Miliband, President and CEO of the International Rescue Committee (IRC). According to the group’s annual list of global humanitarian crises, about 10 percent of people in humanitarian need worldwide are in Sudan, which has been wracked by a brutal civil war since April 2023. “It’s not just the biggest humanitarian disaster today, it’s the biggest humanitarian disaster in history,” warned Miliband. He called for the crossings to be opened for aid and for the forces arming both sides in the conflict to stop doing so.
