A video showing the aftermath of what a Goa homeowner describes as a chaotic stay has gone viral on social media, sparking discussions about guest behavior and respect for the property.
The clip, uploaded by the owner of The Golden Perch, a popular Airbnb rental, shows a scene of disarray allegedly left by guests after a single night, with unwashed dishes, milk stains and a messy bedroom.
In a detailed caption accompanying the video, the owner expressed frustration with the experience, stating: “Enough with paradise. After two years of hosting, we finally found problems. When you try hard and someone destroys it, something dies in you. But we have to get back up and focus on making things better.” The post emphasized the desire for guests to show more consideration, noting, “Running an Airbnb isn’t easy on the heart.”

The video has ignited conversations about the respect due to rental properties, with many viewers rallying behind the accommodation owner. Some expressed disbelief at the lack of basic courtesy shown by guests, while others defended guests, arguing that cleaning fees usually cover the costs associated with tidying up after a stay.
One user commented: “Whoever did this should be named and publicly shamed. People without basic sense and etiquette should just be banned from using these services.”
Another user wrote: “I think the Indians in the comment section don’t understand the concept of an airbnb. The mess is vile. You could easily use a trash bag to throw half the stuff on the counter. try to be aware and respectful, which most Indians lack.”
However, some had divided opinions on the incident. Users debated whether guests should clean utensils after a one-day stay.
One user commented: “So you suggest that the guest clean the kitchen and utensils? Also, did your furniture get damaged? Being a sensible traveler, I don’t keep so many utensils and clean, but the thing in other words, if there are a lot of people, the utensils will be like that, and the kitchen will be dirty.”
Another user supporting this argument wrote: “It’s not even dirty, it’s messy, but nothing is broken or anything that hasn’t been cleaned…cleaning should not be done by the guests.. . it’s not his house, it’s yours.”
This incident has prompted suggestions for clearer rules and guidelines for guests to improve the homestay experience for both hosts and visitors.
