State Department scrubs X accounts of all posts from before Trump’s second term

The State Department wiped the post history of its X accounts and made it so that you had to file a Freedom of Information Act request if you wanted to access any of the content it removed, according to NPR. The publication reported that the State Department removed all posts from before the current term of President Trump – a move that affected many accounts related to the department, including those for US embassies, and posts from the administrations of Biden and Obama. Posts from Trump’s first term will also be removed.

Unlike how previous administrations have handled the removal of social media content and the transfer of accounts, these posts will not be kept in a public archive. This was confirmed by a State Department spokesperson NPR, and said the move was intended “to limit confusion in US government policy and to speak with one voice to advance the goals and messages of the President, Secretary, and Administration. It will preserve history while promoting the present.” The spokesperson also called X accounts “one of our most powerful tools for advancing the goals of America First.”

the Trump administration BECOMES cleaning information from government websites since he assumed office last year. This week, the CIA unexpectedly removed its World Factbook, a global reference guide available on the internet since 1997.
