Earlier, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) issued a strong warning to its players and support staff after a deadly suicide bombing in Islamabad on Tuesday killed 12 people and injured 27 others, with several members of the national team expressing their desire to return home due to security concerns in Pakistan.

Families of some players who have returned to Sri Lanka are reportedly worried and urging them to return home. However, SLC made it clear that anyone who withdraws from the tour without approval will face a formal review should they return. The board hopes the team completes the series as planned.

Sanath Jayasuriya and staff commit to Pakistan tour despite fears

Head coach Sanath Jayasuriya and his staff assured the board that they are ready to stay and complete the tour. “The support staff made it very clear that we wanted to stay and complete the tour. But as the team management of the tour, we heard the concerns of the players and ensured that we addressed their issues in detail,” Jayasuriya said.

In order to calm the situation, PCB Chairman and Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi went to the team hotel to personally comfort the Sri Lankan players. He pledged to increase security, including providing separate elevators and dining areas for teams and increasing protection around hotels and travel routes.
