tottenham hotspur The transfer window didn’t quite go the way they wanted and arguably didn’t actually strengthen any of the positions they needed.
Marquee added as Thomas Frank’s On one side is former Chelsea midfielder Connor Gallagher. He joins the club from Atletico Madrid, although he may not be the progressive midfielder the team currently lacks.
They were also heavily linked with Andy Robertson, but that deal fell through. The only player Spurs brought in was talented Brazilian left-back Sousa, who was signed for the present and the future.
Why Tottenham fans are excited about Sousa
Frank’s team certainly doesn’t lack depth at left guard. Destiny Udogie can be said to be the first choice, as are Ben Davies and Djed Spence, who have been out for some time due to injury. However, Souza adds depth in this area and is a future signing.
We have yet to see the Santos Academy graduate wearing that famous white shirt. He came on as a substitute in the 2-2 draw with Manchester City at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend but did not receive a manager’s appearance.
He made 38 appearances for Santos, playing a key role before moving to north London in 2025. He also made some good contributions in the following games, scoring a goal and assisting four.
There’s certainly a lot to like about Souza, and the 19-year-old has already shown some great qualities. Scout Ben Martinson praises him Because he “defends well in wide channels” and explained that he has “skills on the ball”.
The former Santos star is an exciting player, but there’s another youngster on the roster who could be even more talented.
Spurs have signed better talent than Sousa
Tottenham’s centre-back lineup may be a little thinner than Frank would like. Mickey van der Veen and Christian Romero are first choices, with Kevin Danso a very suitable backup.
However, life at the club was not easy Radu Dragusinwho is Sunday’s game against Manchester City was particularly bad. Now, Tottenham may have someone who can surpass him. It certainly won’t be long before we see Luka Vuskovic in a white shirt.
Spurs analyst Seb Martin described it as He is a “brilliant talent” who has shone in the Bundesliga this season on loan at Hamburger SV. The 18-year-old has performed well and is now a member of the Croatian national team.
He has been a key figure in Germany’s defense, making 17 appearances in the top flight. He played 90 minutes per game and scored four goals, including a stunning strike in December.
Looking at his underlying numbers, you can see why Vuskovic is rated so highly. This season he is winning an average of 7.74 duels and making 8.53 clearances per 90 minutes. These numbers place him in the top 6% and 11% of Bundesliga defenders.

Once Vuskovic returned from his loan spell, it would be difficult for Dragusin to find his way back. His playing time has been limited and he’s been hampered by injuries, and given the Croatian’s talent, it’s impossible not to see him drop down the pecking order.
Excitingly, the Lilywhites will soon have the teenager at their disposal again. The defensive depth of Vuskovic and Souza is good enough for the future, but you can certainly make a case that the centre-back is the club’s best talent.
