Tottenham Hotspur Battled back from two goals down to claim a point against Manchester City In the Premier League.
Ryan Cherky and Antoine Semenio put City ahead before half-time at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and looked headed for victory before a second-half brace from Dominic Solanke brought Spurs back into the game.
The result will give Spurs fans something to shout about after a disappointing league campaign so far, but will do little to ease the mounting pressure on boss Thomas Frank.
For Pep Guardiola’s side, who were looking to restore the four-point gap between them and league leaders Arsenal, they remain second but are now six points behind their title rivals.
Early misery for Spurs
City were ahead after 11 minutes. After Yves Bissoma was sent off on the half-way line, Erling Haaland found Cherky who took a few touches before slotting home from inside the box.
Adding further grief to Spurs’ dismal league form, Frank again cut a disappointing figure on the touchline.
Five minutes later, Haaland missed a good chance when, surrounded by several Spurs defenders while getting down on goal, the Norwegian lifted the ball past Vicario but the ball looped into the roof of the net.
City doubled their advantage on the stroke of half-time when an under-hit Tottenham clearance resulted in the ball falling to Bernardo Silva.
The City captain fed Semenyo and, with time and space to pick his spot, the Ghana international slotted an effort into the corner to give Guardiola’s men a commanding lead going into the break.
A brave comeback
After boos erupted at the half-time whistle at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Destiny Udogi came close to giving the home fans something to cheer early in the second half, but his fierce strike was impressively saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Moments later, they had a goal to celebrate when Solanke bundled home to halve the deficit with over 35 minutes to play.
He sparked the Spurs into life. On 70 minutes, they equalized when Solank cleverly flicked on Conor Gallagher’s cross.
The England striker was ahead of the ball when Cross came in, but somehow managed to hook the ball over Donnarumma with the heel of his boot.
Tottenham were now firmly in the ascendancy. The towering Italian again had to palm Xavi Simmons’ goal-bound effort before substitute Wilson Audobert drew a stop from the City keeper.
City regained control of the game going into the latter stages but there were no further goals and the points were shared.
