Snow cancellations and delays may be nothing new for the Northeast, but this weekend, large events in states like South Carolina, Georgia and Florida were canceled or postponed due to freezing temperatures.
Winter weather is expected to cause travel headaches on Saturday and Sunday from the coastal Carolinas to the Northeast and New England, Fox Weather reports.
Airlines canceled dozens of flights for Saturday and beyond in anticipation of extreme weather.

Children’s activities across the Southeast have been affected. Even Disney and Universal Studios have closed their water parks.

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park in Lake Buena Vista is closed due to arctic temperatures. Universal Studios Volcano Bay at Universal Orlando Resort is closed January 31 and February 1 due to extreme weather, Fox Business reported.
Zoo Miami was scheduled to remain open, but some animals were no-shows.
“They were left behind just to get the warmth they needed,” said Ron Magill, the zoo’s director of communications. WSVN reports.

In North Carolina, Ringling Brothers, Barnum & Bailey Circus shows scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at First Horizon Arena in Greensboro were canceled as local officials declared a state of emergency and a snow emergency, according to the venue’s website.

1. Polar Diving, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Organizers of the Penguin Plunge fundraiser have postponed the event on Sunday, February 1, which would have been the town’s first-ever event.

Organized and supported by public security agencies Special Olympics Connecticutthe purpose of the event was to have police officers jump into a mobile diving pool at West Hartford City Hall to raise funds and awareness for the cause.
Anyone can still donate as they wish. The fundraiser has reportedly been postponed to March, but a specific date has not yet been announced.
