Sourav Ganguly drops bombshell ahead of India vs Pakistan clash, reveals his favorite Indian cricketer


Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said he is looking forward to the 2026 T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan on Sunday, February 15 in Colombo. Ganguly also shared his excitement about the current Indian team and revealed his favorite player to watch.

India started their T20 World Cup campaign with a convincing 29-run victory over the United States. The Men in Blue will travel to Delhi for their next Group A match against Namibia on February 12. They will then travel to Colombo for the much-anticipated match against Pakistan on February 15.

Sourav Ganguly said the match against Pakistan will be one of the most important matches of the T20 World Cup. He pointed out that it will be difficult for Pakistan to beat India as India is a strong and balanced team.

“This will be an important World Cup match. The match will be played on February 15 and it will not be easy for Pakistan to beat India. India are a very good team,” Sourav Ganguly told ANI in Kolkata.

The Pakistani government had threatened to boycott the match against India. The change in stance came after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) held talks with the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Monday, February 9. The game will now go ahead as scheduled.

Sourav Ganguly said that the T20 World Cup has started in an exciting way and every team has performed well so far. Ganguly also listed out his favorite players in the current Indian team. He picked Abhishek Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan as his favorite players.

“The tournament has started very well. So far, no team, be it Netherlands, Scotland or Nepal, looks out of place. In the Indian team, Abhishek Sharma, Bumrah, Surya and Ishan Kishan are my favourites,” he added.

India and Pakistan build momentum ahead of crucial T20 World Cup showdown

Pakistan started their journey to the 2026 T20 World Cup with a wicket win over the Netherlands at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. They will next play Team USA on Tuesday, February 10th at the same venue.

The Indian team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, also started with a win as they defeated the United States by 29 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Men in Blue will take on Namibia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Thursday, February 12.

India and Pakistan have met eight times in the T20 World Cup and the men in blue have a record of 7 wins and 1 loss. India also defeated Pakistan in the group stage of the previous edition of the tournament in 2024.

Due to political tensions, competition in the past decade has been limited to ICC events and the Asia Cup. India defeated Pakistan thrice in the 2025 Asia Cup in UAE.
