Tottenham Hotspur have exercised their option to extend Son Heung-min’s contract, keeping him at the club for a further 12 months until June 2026.

The South Korean striker and club captain’s contract expires in June, meaning Spurs risk losing him on a free transfer in north London for a decade since signing from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015.

Barcelona were one of a number of clubs rumored to be considering signing him this summer, but the 32-year-old will now stay at Tottenham for at least another year.

Son has long been the top goalscorer from Asia in Premier League history and is the third-highest goalscorer among active players, behind only Jamie Vardy and Mo Salah.

He has hit double figures in goals in each of the past eight top-flight seasons and shared the Golden Boot with Salah in 2022, but has found it difficult to maintain his good form this season, Only 5 goals have been scored so far and 2 goals in the last 11 Premier League appearances.

Son Heung-min played 431 games for Tottenham and scored 169 goals.

A statement on Tottenham’s website said: “We are delighted to announce that we have exercised our option to extend Son Heung-min’s contract, which will now run until the summer of 2026.”
