The issue – previously reported to Apple support page,, Macrumors and Reddit Forums by affected iPhone 17 Pro Max owner – also reported by a CNET staff staff. The speaker’s problem does not affect any of the CNET review units tried by the editorial team, and does not appear widely. We’ve reached Apple for comment.

According to Cnet Senior Analyst Jeffrey Mizrani, the audio on his iPhone 17 Pro Max sound “crunchier” than the first iPhone 16 Pro Max. When listening to the dialogue of a John Oliver YouTube Clip, he noticed a distortion of quality in voices.

Except for Quieter, Crunchy Audio, Mizrani describes a static noise from a speaker if the volume volume is set to the Zired USB-C charger. Reports of forums agree. This sound is defined as like a Walkie-Talkie noise and is not repeated if the phone has no charge or when Magafe wireless charging.
