World Champion in Four Levels Shakur Stevenson appeal with Connor Benn But now the Newark southpaw has named another fighter as his ideal next opponent.
Stevenson defeated Teofimo Lopez last month to become the WBO super lightweight world championpropelling his name higher into the pound rankings and taking his stardom to the next level.
Before the fight, the 28-year-old expressed his intention to return to lightweight, but that seems to have changed now.
Immediately after his victory over Lopez, Shakur made it clear that he would like to fight at 147 pounds, calling for a fight with Benn and opening the door to a potential superfight on British soil.
Now, it looks like Stevenson will be moving up to welterweight soon, But he told anchor Adin Ross His ideal next opponent would be Ryan Garcia, a 147-pound backup operator.
“I like Ryan, Ryan Garcia. I would love to fight Ryan Garcia.”
Garcia will take on WBC welterweight world champion Mario Barrios later this month in a bid to finally capture world honors, with Benn and now Stevenson waiting in the wings to secure a title shot against Garcia later this year.
Although from Garcia’s perspective, the Englishman may be the preferred opponent, Stevenson keen to include rehydration clause in contract for future welterweight fights And Ben is still relatively unproven at world level.
